Did You Know? There Is a Healthier Way to Do Flooring Installation
Are you planning to renovate your home or workplace? One of the most impactful changes you could make is by upgrading your floor. Nowadays, there are so many excellent products on the market that look great and deliver excellent value in terms of durability, but choosing the right type of flooring is only half the battle. Installation is just as important – not only in terms of quality and visual appeal, but also regarding the health of your family or employees.
That’s right, flooring installation can play a very important role in protecting and supporting the health of the occupants of a building. Over time, a floor can become a collecting place and environment for dust, mould, mildew, and other allergens. Exposure to these elements can lead to irritations, allergies and even illness.
Surely, something can be done to prevent this?
Since the inception of Top Carpets and Floors in KwaZulu-Natal way back in 1988 – 32 years ago, to be exact – it has been our mission to deliver products and create a service that is centred around the needs of our customers. This includes everything from sourcing top-quality flooring at affordable prices, to providing exemplary installation services.
This commitment has ensured that we stay abreast of the latest technologies and techniques to provide you with the highest industry standard possible. Our latest service evolution includes the provision of Healthy Living Installations – a flooring installation service that includes the sanitation of a floor and proactive measures to reduce allergens and microbes.
What makes this flooring installation method different from the standard approach?
Healthier Living Installations, exclusive to Top Carpets and Floors stores, is a step-by-step process that is aimed at diminishing the presence of allergens, mould, mildew, and bacteria on and below the floor surface.
Step 1: Removal of old flooring
The process starts with the old floor being removed very carefully to prevent any microbes and allergens that are present from becoming airborne.
Step 2: Debugging
Next, the bare floor surface is thoroughly vacuumed, using a high filtration vacuum cleaner. This HEPA System (special filtering) vacuum reduces dust and microbes, and stops it from spreading to other areas during installation.
Step 3: Antimicrobial treatment
After the surface has been cleaned, we spray it with a pre-installation treatment, BioGuard, to provide long-term protection. This antimicrobial treatment disinfects, protects and diminishes allergens, mould, mildew, and bacteria, while also limiting surface micro-organisms that might still be present from becoming airborne.
Step 4: Install special underlay
Instead of using ordinary underfelt, we use the Spillguard antimicrobial underlay. This special underlay is 100% moisture-resistant to keep spills from seeping through, and it inhibits the growth of mould, mildew, and odour-causing bacteria.
Step 5: Complete installation
Now that the surface is properly cleaned and prepared, the actual flooring is installed on this new foundation that offers lasting protection against microbes and allergens.
This special flooring installation method is available for the majority of products available from Top Carpets and Floors. This means that you never have to sacrifice form for function. You can enjoy the floor of your choice with complete peace of mind that your family is protected.
